I stayed at the Ren a couple years ago, and while it is a Marriott property, the stay was simply spectacular. Tons of things to do all in walking distance, great staff (actually some of the best staff I have ever seen anywhere), and a beautiful room (upgraded to a corner suite with floor-to-ceiling glass windows for an extra $10). Some awesome sushi restaurants within walking distance (also some of the best sushi I've ever eaten). I've heard mixed reviews about the neighborhood surrounding the Hilton.
