This is a routine issue at many hotels. And in the worst cases you may even discover that you get charged at some arbitrary exchange rate (to your disadvantage as a customer) and yet get only points on the basis of some other exchange rate.

Wasn't there a thread about this being an issue at several Starwood hotels in Australia two years ago or so?
