Err, I don't understand what do you mean. CX just posted the second biggest profit ever in the airline history. What makes you think CX is a trribly unprofitable airline?
CX has 3X daily flight to LAX due to the connection that LAX offer. With the oneworld parter, AA, all passenger can virtually visit every city in the US nonstop or at most one-stop (via DTW or ORD). As for SFO, AA has a limited operation SFO compare to LAX, hence less connection for passenger, hence less demand for SFO. CX did intend to increase SFO to twice daily but put on hold because they fail to secure additional flight from India (India provide a lot of connection for CX's North America Operations).
The samething apply for YVR and YYZ. Not a lot of people will want to transit in YVR or YYZ and those cities does not offer a lot of options. Maybe Calgary or Halifax? Why would you want to fly all the way to Canada before entering the USA while you can enter the USA directly from Hong Kong?
