Advertising Masterclass - History of Club
Went to a fascinating seminar today on advertising given by an ex-head of brands at BA. He showed us all the TV adverts for all the Club products since 1985.
Original Club was called "Super Club" and looked similar to the convertible CE seats we have today - i.e. 3 seats in economy convert into 2 and a space in between. Advert suggested havinf to remove the plane roof to get the seats in.
Then the proper Club World seats - which actually looked like the CE seats we have today but with blue cloth. Same pitch (ish) as WT+ and no PTVs. Great advert to show a tired Exec getting a good night sleep and arriving unscathed for an early morning meeting in London from JFK.
Then the next version - the same seat but back of the seat PTV (small) - looks exactly like WT+ with leg and foot rest - maybe the source of the perception some have that WT+ "is the old business class seats".
Then onto 1996 with the cradle seat, then 2000 with the flat bed........fascinating.
He also talked about the FIRST bed being designed by a yacht designer.
Also the major innovation that was the "widest ever Club Europe seat" when they invented the 3x3 becomes 2x3convertible. ((I thoughht CE was originally 2x2????))
Fascinating stuff - PM me if you want details of the guys course............
