Take a look at the promotional material from the 1960s for the Boeing 747 and 2707 - they showed four boarding jetways in use - Doors 1L and 1R and Doors 2L and 2R (2707) / Doors 3L and 3R (747).

As noted, some jetways have dual portals to allow 1L and 2L to board simultaneously on widebodies. And you will probably see dual portal / dual level jetways at airports like DXB, LHR, LAX, and SFO which will see heavy A380 traffic.
