I'd be interested to know how often this happens?
We had no pre-assigned seats last summer (with no option), flying LGW-VRN - and when we went to check-in (three hours before departure) found that we had four separate seats dotted around the cabin - not a great start for our 8 yr and 5yr olds first ever flight.
At check-in we were kept waiting 20 minutes, whilst attempts were made to sort this out - having been originally told 'we have to sort this', 'the children have to be sat with you' ... finally we ended up with two pairs of A and D seats - with the advice to ask the other passengers to move around to accomodate us once we were onboard! No help at the gate as it was a bus to the aircraft, and half the passengers had left the gate. Fortunately the other passengers did accomodate us, (one couple were Japanese - so that was entertaining), but we could have ended up across the aisle from each other - again far from ideal.
Sorry to go on, but advice to prevent this would be gratefully received? (Forget the check-in the night before - we're in Wiltshire and don't plan on a night in an airport hotel). I am Silver this time around, so wondered whether I would get away with checking us all in at the CE desks and jump some of the summer Saturday queue?
Thanks - Tim
