Given the combination of:
1) an institutionalized anti customer service culture ("we're here primarily for your safety");
2) AA's formal service cutbacks; and
3) the apparent unwillingness of many FA's to provide the minimal levels of remaining service that AA's supposedly offers...
imagine the cost-savings that could accrue to AA if they simply replaced most of the domestic FAs with properly trained security guards!! The savings would dwarf all the nickle and diming AA is presently engaged in with its passengers.
I know, I know, AA management and unions would in all likelihood ride the airline down in a flaming bankruptcy before attempting something so radical... still, its an interesting thought.
