Fair point. But with the 2 certs I redeemed last year, I made separate bookings and simply asked when I checked in that the two bookings be linked. The charges then roll over into one bill, and at check-out the second night is knocked off manually.
I have done this at other hotels on numerous occasions, most recently at a non-IC in Bilbao last week where I booked the Sat through the hotel but could only get a room for the Sunday through Expedia.
