That was my theory too....but i was on 2 flights today where ALL of them were torn in the middle. Now admittedly I wasn't first in there, so maybe they tore when someone sat down, but if it is a security measure, they dont seem to be checking them very diligently.
If I go in there before leaving the gate, should I tell the FA if they're all broken?
