Mandarin Oriental FHR (+ Centurion)
Just got back from two nights at the MO in NYC. Wow! It was top notch in every possible way.
I know there were threads months ago about the fact that FHR will not let you upgrade to a suite. I told the Centurion advisor that I wanted to know what rate I would have to pay to upgrade to a suite. She put me on hold, called the hotel and called me back. We ended up paying about $175 more than the cheapest room would have been, but we got an extraordinary Mardarin Oriental Suite - the most magnificent hotel room I've ever been in with views that extended from Central Park (from the bedroom) to the Hudson up to the George Washington Bridge from the living room. Every single person who worked there went out of their way to provide exceptional and warm service. The deal included breakfasts, a lunch at Asiate, the confirmed upgrade and, temporarily, admission to the Jazz Club next door with a free glass of champagne. As a Centurion holder, I only paid for one night and got the second one free. There is no doubt that between the free night and the value of the upgrade and the other freebies, these two days almost covered my Centurion fee for the year!
My wife thought I was crazy until the weekend was over. This is a fabulous getaway that we will hope to repeat annually.l
