There are tour operators all over the place there - you can book kayak or longtail boat tours on just about any street corner, through your hotel, etc. There were even a couple of bars and restaurants in Ao Nang that would arrange a discount if you booked through them. They're unavoidable once you get there, so don't stress about planning ahead.

If I recall correctly, it was about 1900 baht to transfer from Phuket airport to Ao Nang. We did see some shared-ride buses that were considerably cheaper, though I'm not sure how one would arrange that from the airport (we saw only taxis, but saw the buses advertised in town).
