It sounds like electronic upgrade certs would be an improvement. Is AS moving in that direction?

I can understand that this new procedure makes boarding a bit more efficient, since the gate agent currently has to collect the cert and deal with downgrading anyone whose cert has been lost or has expired or whatever. And as an MVP I am selfishly in favor of reducing multiple uses of one Gold paper upgrade. But it seems like if they made the upgrades electronic the collection of the "cert" could be done over the phone or online ahead of time.
