So I thought - no problem, when we get to the gate the agent will see the message and be sure to collect the coupon.

Nope. It seems that even though the image looks like a boarding pass (barcode and all) it is not a valid document for passing security. You have to give your coupon to the agent at the ticket counter.

No more online check-in if you are using an upgrade coupon.

This was a major hassle as we had to step out of the front of the security line, return to the ticket counter, get the boarding pass, and then go back through security.

There are three types of documents that come out of that machine and they are all on the same paper stock.

Boarding Pass -

Gate Document - usually issued if the kiosk wasnt able to assign a seat, but you are otherwise checked in

Airport Service Document - Not Valid for Airport Security (stated on the coupon), and means your reservation needs to be attended to by a counter agent.

Do you feel that the Not Valid for Airport Security needs to be more clearly marked? Or is it just something that everyone is going to need to get used to seeing.
