In Japan, if you book anywhere other than at Hyatt.com, they will charge you double for two people in a room. Even at Hyatt.com, 2 people in a room increases the rate by 47%. In both cases the room size and bed type is exactly the same. I think this is ridiculous.
Mind you, this practise is not restricted to Hyatts in Japan. This gouging is standard procedure all throughout Japan and the people here don't know any different.

Take my advise, check in alone while your partner waits somewhere else in the lobby. This is possible in Osaka, GHT and Century Hyatt in Tokyo, but may be a little difficult in the PHT.
I don't know what you are talking about. This is definitely not the case at the Hyatts in Tokyo, although I know it is common in Japan. It is also common in Europe.
