I have rental car coverage on my Aerogold Visa card, but that coverage excludes cars valued at over $65,000 Cdn, and that is the case with the car I'm renting. I also have looked into the rental car coverage that comes with the insurance on my own car, but that coverage is only good on rentals in North America. I've called BCAA (CAA), but they don't sell any package for Europe and don't know where I can purchase one. I've called my travel agent, but the policy he sells has the same restriction as the Visa card.
So, I'm now at the point where I am about to move from an Audi/Mercedes or BMW to an Opel, something I had hoped to avoid. I figured that before doing that I'd turn to the experts here to see if anyone knows where I can find the insurance that I need.
You are kind of scaring me.
Surely Standard/Full size BMWs or C series Mercedes (which is typically what I get) are priced below 65k?
BTW, make sure the rental company is aware that you plan to take the car to Italy. They may well give you an Opel anyway in that case.
Another point: there might be more attractive rates including insurance than the "best rate" without it, plus insurance added to it.
BTW, for Italy, I would probably rent in Italy rather than in Germany.
