I went to Cambodia a couple of months ago - I can't recommend the place I stayed in Siem Reap (there was a sign on the wall in our room listing the various rules, including "no prostitutes in the guesthouse" and "no explosives or firearms" - so strict!!). So beware descriptions on Web sites, as they can be very misleading. But no matter where you stay, you will love Angkor. You'll need a guide and a driver. They will most likely be two different people, and will cost you $20-25/day each. It's best to arrange for the guide (and probably the driver) in advance - your hotel can help with this.
I spent a couple of days in Phnom Penh, which was surprisingly enjoyable. We stayed at the Amanjaya for about $150US and had a gorgeous room.
I absolutely loved Cambodia, and am so glad I went. I imagine it will be quite different in just a few years, so you should go now!
