Mexico is not in Central America (that's Panama, Honduras, Belize, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica) - anyhoo from LAX and MIA it's SAL and SJO that have flights to both cities. The rest, e.g. MGA (which is far better than SAL, GUA, etc.) are all MIA. So it is SAL.
Not sure why you say you can't go to SJO because it is August.
On a OW RTW can't you use gateways and not count doubling back - e.g. select MGA (best choice) and do LAX-MIA-MGA-MIA because you have to?
