The loader checks the BP in order to see if the person's items need to be switched to an orange selectee bin and the metal detector person checks to see if they need to send the person to secondary or not. Pretty simple really.
Simple?? My boarding pass was checked once coming through security at LHR. It was such a refreshing change from the BS we go through in the states. No one had to take their shoes off! Imagine that.
