There are several reasons why CX pricing might be less than AC. CX serves Manila, and AC does not, so AC has to interline with another carrier (CX?) that prices the MNL-HKG portion very dearly. Another possibility, as DF has noted, is supply and demand. Despite the A345's problems, the nonstop flight westbound gives AC a competitive advantage over that stop in Vancouver CX is forced to make, and that tends result in higher loads, particularly as we move into the summer schedule. I wouldn't have accepted the lack of compensation for that 12-hour delay. Even NOW, I would send an email to Montie Brewer, give him the details, tell him that people are saying you should have complained back then, and tell him that rather than staying mad at AC, you would like him to give you a reason to be happy with AC again. Tell him you make the MNL-YYZ run several times a year, in J, sometimes (always?) with your wife. (I believe the email address is [email protected].). And let us know if he gives you a valid reason to return to AC, whether it is compensation, or a price break on your next trip(s).
