Boomer, Never thought of your post that way.
However, you probably can use the ELTC, however you might just be in luck by checking in at SAN and not have to use the certificate. Is there just no FC seats for ELTC upgrades? Or, no FC seats at all? CO holds some back and when you check-in in SAN, you can get upgraded the whole trip. Of course, you probably already know that. I think I would confirm the ELTC for the long flight and then see what happens when you check-in.
