I've done this many times. Just ask at some point after check-in to have your MP # number removed from the record. New boarding cards will have to be printed. You may lose exit row seating, if applicable. Then claim the mileage with the other Star Alliance carrier by following their procedures (LH requires original boarding cards and a copy of the ticket receipt). This is the safest approach, in my experience.
