Thanks for the ideas. I looked into Aloha and I had trouble finding flights out of BUR. The website just keeps offering flights from SNA instead. SNA is not an option as it is even further from my home base at SBA. The only BUR flights I could find were on the return via OGG (I think). Strange. The fares were about the same as out of LAX which is better than SBA and a little more convenient.

As for the FF miles, award tickets on UA are hard to come by to Hawaii. I have to remember to begin searching 330 days out. It seems though, that often inventory management does not even load the award seats right away on UA anyway. I'll have to work that angle some more since I have so many miles to use up.
