Jaws43 advice makes sense. It can work, it
did for me a few years ago when my friends
were getting married in San fran (they plan things at the last minute) and I wanted to get there in comfort.

Explained my situation to United, that I wanted to be there and use my miles so I bought a cheap first class tix and upgraded
to first. It worked and it can if you just
