This unfortunately is the case in Europe. The weakness of the dollar and the expensive food costs, particularly, become evident quickly.
The 20 pounds rate is typical of London hotels for internet, although its usually for 24 hr in-room high speed access. I've complained, and only been told by the hotel9 (Hiltons, Sheratons, Intercontinental), that this is the going rate in London.
Heading to Internet Cafes is an alternative, but I've found it lacking. Cheap, but slow, and typically unreliable service. If you're trying to do business, Internet Cafes typically aren't practical.
