I've found AC very good about repairing damaged bags. On two occasions I have had roller bags damaged seriously enough to warrant a complaint. In both cases we completed the forms at the airport and I was given the paperwork to take to a luggage repair house, once when I lived in Edmonton, another time here in Toronto. In the last instance, the repair shop noticed that another item was broken on my case, but not included in my claim. They fixed that too, and I suppose billed AC for the fix.

In your specific case, I would really not bother. I have had the similar tab break off and no intention on making a claim with AC or any other airline for such an insignificant item. There are lots of little fixes to make it functional, so don't waste your time or AC's.
