A letter makes it acceptable?

How many minutes would it take to bash up some BS letter with a squiggly signature? Who is gonna call the doctor to check if it is for real (at 3am UK time when the flight is departing from half way across the world).

Totally ludicrous thinking (just like most of the so called "security measures" we have to endure these days.....)
