An SQ guy from international relations came to my university to give a talk on aviation law early this month. He said that UA and SQ don't codeshare yet because their computer systems can't "speak" to each other.

I found that reason quite hard to believe. SQ and Air India codeshare on SIN-LAX/SFO flights so I suppose SQ's reservation system can "speak" to AI's. Is there any reason why it cannot "speak" to UA's? I'm just about to get an engineering degree and am somewhat familiar with IT systems and cannot fathom how this is possible - but I may be wrong.

Wonder if it was a politically correct way of saying they just don't want to do it (remember for better or worse SQ think they are just better than everyone else)- He mentioned that many pax were complaining of the AC codeshares because of the vast difference in service levels between SQ and AC. SQ pax for example are used to full meal service with choice and comprehensive IFE, hot towels, full bar service with cocktails and menus even in Y class on 2 hour flights from SIN.

Next, how significant is UA's domestic USA feed to SQ? I believe many other US based carriers do interline with SQ, like CO, AA and DL. I know many people who come to SIN on an AA flight to LAX or SFO connecting to SIN. Or a DL flight to any of the US ports SQ flies to, then picking an SQ flight to East Asia or Singapore.

I took UA in Nov 2003 from Paris to Chicago and back. I must say that the service was so very good. The Paris based UA crew are just the best. One of the best cabin crew service I had and i told the crew that their service was as good as, if not better than Singapore Airlines. They looked startled and replied "That's impossible. I've taken Singapore Airlines and I know what their service is like and there's no way we're even half as good!" I told them from the bottom of my heart that I felt that they were as good as SQ. And they went "Thanks. That's the highest compliment you could pay us!"
