Well, you can get to SIN from HKG and NRT on OneWorld (CX) and AA codeshares (JL), which would keep your status miles/points all on AA if you wanted for the price of connecting and visiting the Wing at HKG.

Agree, however as the company has informed me that I will most likely fly Singapore I don't think I have the luxury to make that choice.
