Yep, I think that's exactly what I'll do...use a taxi. The price discrepancy between most of the black car services and a cab is just too large and not worth it for a 10-mile ride.
I've never taken a cab from LAX but I've never seen very long lines waiting for one, so I should be fine as far as time.
I have never had any problems getting a taxi at LAX. Indeed, sometimes it can take longer to go to the garage with the driver than waiting in the taxi line. The last time I used a limo service, recommended by a friend, we were bound for an early AM international flight. The driver failed to show up. Fortunately, one of our children lives nearby and was able to drive us. I have never had this happen with a taxi which I reserved the night before.
