That sounds about right for me at least.

Last year, virtually all partner miles, 5 transcons at ~$200/pop = $1000

So far this year i'm about 13k into it to MVP, at around $400 (1 int'l trip) but I'm heading to Asia next week which will bring me into MVP again, that trip was $735.

bonus miles are worth it alone for me....
