I suppose like anythng else, it depends on a lot of factors. Do you have a lot of miles to burn? Is it better to get a free car vs. paying? For example, you can get two rt tkts interisland on Aloha airlines for 10K. That's over $250 in value. Is a rental car worth $125 a day? Maybe for some people, yes. For me? Overpriced.

Same with the hotels. Spend 30K for one night? I got a saver award from HNL-DCA for 35K that costs $1400. Is a hotel room worth over $1000 a night? Not for me.

But as others have said, if it means UA can burn some miles that would otherwise go for flights and they can get a good deal from the hotel/car vendors, then it's a good thing, right?
