Yeah, what a terrible partnership! I hate it when an airline that used to have no relationship with NW whatsoever limits their new partnership benefits to giving me EQMs, elite banked mileage bonuses, elite security lines, preboarding, preferred seating, and priority bag tags! How dare they leave out upgrades! I wish it was like the old days, where I had to open yet another FF account with DL if I wanted to earn miles on DL metal, and where I had to be elite on BOTH airlines if I wanted benefits from both.
But seriously (yes, the above is sarcasm in case it's not clear), the NW-DL partnership may not be as tight as the NW-CO partnership, but it's given us nothing but additional options. It hasn't closed off any possibilities that previously existed. If you wanted to continue to maintain separate NW and DL elite status so you could get upgraded on both, you still could. Nobody is stopping you.
