For a period of a few weeks, I used to fly from NY to Sao Paulo each week, then take a taxi from there to another city named Cochabamba or some such. With no traffic, the ride took around 3 hours, and of course there is rarely such thing as no traffic in Sao Paulo, so more like 4 or 5. I think the distance each way was around 300km, maybe less....for $60.
That got old very very quickly.
