I agree with the OP, however there are exceptions. Actually I can usually tell from the tone of voice whether I should hang up and try again. Some people just aren't having a nice day and you can tell right away. But usually the females at least act more cheerful. OTOH sometimes when a guy acts overly cheerful I get worried.
