Something to keep in mind if you decide to start accruing with AA. There is a very credible rumour that the 1MM and 2MM lifetime elite programs (Gold and Platinum respectively) will be changing soon (probably before the end of this year) so that only BIS miles will qualify for the total. Also, as these program are currently structured, they're obviously much more achievable for people who reside in N. America. The fact that miles from any source still qualify is not nearly as useful for those of us who live here (no AA-earning credit card, no dining program, no mile-earning bank account, etc). If you already have lots of AA miles and are within striking distance of 1MM or 2MM, then it's a program worth pursuing, but if you're just starting now, you might be disappointed. When (and if) the lifetime status programs change (presumably counting BIS only miles), QF's own program might be more desirable (depending on one's flying patterns, of course).
