Fliar I believe there is a thread buried somewhere in the Asia(Tokyo?) forum on this subject. I am sorry that I can't find the link for obvious reasons.

I haven't stayed at the Ryokan you have mentioned, but have stayed at some great properties in Yufuin and Kurokawa in Oita/Kumamoto. Those experiences are un-paralleled , for their great service/food and surroundings. An absolute must do when visiting Japan!
