The only problem I've ever had was when I gave some to my friend who was not even a Goldpassport member. She tried to make a reservation indicating her intention to use it, depending on availabilty at check-in, and the hotel reservation manager wouldn't enter it into the record. But then she signed up and became a GP member and she had no problem making the reservation and using it at check-in.
I've used them before I became a Diamond. I had no status.
I am not positive and I am (sort of) new to Hyatt, but a colleague passed one to me too. When I called up reservations, the rep on the line told me I "did not qualify" because of it being a diamond gold passport certificate only, and my status did not qualify me. When I looked at it again I found it did state it was a Diamond Member certificate, (hence DIAMGC? worth a try.), but the expiration date is 12/31/05.
