Has anyone here driven on the Pi'ilani Highway between Hana and Kahului recently? I'm considering a road bike ride around the eastern part of Maui, starting and ending in Kahului.

I drove this route a few years ago, so I'm pretty familar with the downside of riding it (e.g., heavy rain & traffic on the northern road to Hana). What I don't know is the current condition of the non-paved part of the Pi'ilani Hwy. Last I was there, it was pretty hard packed dirt with some loose gravel for about four miles. This is not an ideal surface for a road bike, but it is probably tolerable for four miles.
