They treat empty seats like perishable goods (selling down at the last moment), unlike the States, where they figure people will pay top dollar for last-minute tix!
While living in Russia in 1999, another couple and us decided to go somewhere for the weekend. Went to the airport on the spur of the moment on Friday afternoon, and found a one way $150 charter ticket to Crete. Ended up being a beast getting home on Sunday afternoon thru Moscow, but was a lot of fun not knowing where we would end up, and having a nice Greek salad in the Mediterranean.
