A few years ago it was a toss-up whether to pay cash (¥10,000) or use 8,000 points.

Prices started rising, whereas the points rates bumped just a bit to 10,000 or 12,000. But now some large cities are now over ¥20,000, so not a big surprise the points rates have caught up.
