HND 355 availability gets snapped up quickly. But frequently releases at very short notice. So if you are a flexible flyer you can get in there. A number of forumites do this quite a lot. I think it helps if you have someone to stay with in Japan so you aren't stressing about your return.
PVG is often wide open and I took advantage of this recently when I wanted to go to Korea. But it works equally well for Japan. With no visa requirements for China any more for UK pax, it's a doddle.
We've got the transfer flights from PVG into NRT and out of HND for £440 total for 2 of us with ANA so am happy to loose that cost for the convenience of a more direct flight, also more chance of a club suite with the early A350 flight having them
