(But he also loved a good road trip...driving to 49 of the 50 US states and most of the Canadian provinces, most well more than once)
I haven't driven all of the 50 states but have logged just short of 1.5 million road miles (business) in my life. I definitely know most of the states with horrible freeways/highways and yeah, these young engineers should drive more so that they can see and feel what incompetence or corruption can yield.
