I too am firmly in the travel the night before camp. You have plenty of suggestions here but would point out that on a Friday evening the trains will be very busy. I'd set off at a time which misses the rush hour in London. You do not mention whether you are in France on business, nor where you are staying/working in Paris; so how convenient it is to go to the Gare du Nord I cannot judge.
