The cheapest, direct flights from NYC down to the islands can generally be had to PR, Bahamas and The Dominican Republic.

CO from EWR, AA and DL from JFK... not sure of any that go direct from LGA.

I don't like the San Juan area but cars are cheap and there are plenty of beautiful parts of the island.

You can get to SJU for under $200 r/t these days. Also check out CO to BQN which is sometimes pretty cheap.

Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz all have good listings... I'm sure there are consolidators out there that sell charter tix, but if there is a charter that is charging less than $200 r/t (including all taxes) I might be scared to get on the plane....
