The kiosks cannot be escaped, they are showing up on airlines around the world. Go with the flow or you will end up only flying the most technologically unsophisticated airlines. If you feel the personal interaction was not professional, there is always United Customer Care Don't hesitate to use it if you feel you were not treated respectfully.

I think you know that planes cannot taxi in, out or about without all passengers seated and belted. The FA has a duty to inform the pilot when a passenger is up, even for a call of nature. I'd bet there is an FAA regulation on that.
There is yet another nuance with the kiosks when travelling to countries that require visas. On those trips I don’t even try….
