As was pointed out, this wasn't UA itself, it was a Republic Airways (YX) flight (which apparently operate for AA, DL and UA).
It shouldn't make a difference, but it does. Just look at GoJet (another UX operator): they most often go above and beyond.
I.e. not all UX carriers are created equal.
