You’re right, though, lounges aren’t going to change your life. But since the airlines have chosen to build them and make them part of the package of the flight experience, they should at least be decent.

what’s worse about UA lounges is that they have removed for the most part the whole reason I joined the RCC in the first place – a decent place in which two have my flight needs addressed during IRROPS. A sign with a phone number to call isn’t helpful.
