Hey all, long-time lurker here
I’ve been booking more separate-ticket itineraries lately (usually to save $$ or get better routes), and realized how hard it is to answer a simple question: “Is this connection actually safe?”
Airlines don’t care if you miss it. MCTs are vague. And things like terminal changes, immigration, or re-checking bags aren’t obvious when booking.
So I built a small free tool:
👉
https://www.checkmylayover.com
You just enter your two flight numbers and it will:
- calculate your real connection time
- estimate a risk level
- show the latest arrival time you can land and still realistically make the connection
- factor in things like connection type (intl/domestic), buffers, etc.
No signup — just wanted something I could use myself when planning.
Would genuinely appreciate feedback from this group — especially if you’ve done a lot of self-transfers or tricky connections.
Curious:
- Do you rely on MCT or your own rules of thumb?
- What’s your personal “minimum” for risky airports?
Happy to improve it based on real-world input.
