Got the Palladium card about a month ago and I've never had a credit card that requires so much attention to make work and use to access it's benefits. It's so clunky and not user friendly at all! I know that all has been discussed in many forums, but man, I just have to vent a bit about it! Some of my main frustrations:
1-Low credit limit and slow lag time for payments. I really feel like Bilt has purposely created an ecosystem that throttles use down to limit their exposure to pay out points and benefits. I was given a $12k spending limit, which is annoying low. I've made two mid-statement payments as I'd run out of credit and it's taking 4-6 days for those payments to go from pending to final. I know banks can get nervous with mid-statement payments, but come on. I haven't tried to increase my credit limit yet as I've read you need to wait a few months with them.
2-The main one right now for me is housing payments. I've chosen the flexible option so I can earn Bilt cash (I've been redeeming for the Points Accelerator). Problem is my mortgage provider isn't in the Bilt ecosystem so I had to set up payment through the BillPay feature. Find out today as I'm making sure my first payment will process on the 1st that 1) since I'm using BillPay I need to make sure I have enough of my credit limit available to cover the transaction or it will get declined (unlike if I had set it up through Bilt), and 2) I can't earn points on the payment as there's no way to redeem Bilt cash for the automatic payment. The explanation the Concierge gives is there's no way for me to toggle to use Bilt cash since the payment is being initiated outside the Bilt system. Can't imagine it's difficult to give that as an option to select when you set up the payment. Why?? I don't know....besides they want to make this overly complicated to reduce the amount in rewards people can earn.
So the option for me is to do a manual payment each month through my lender's portal, and that would trigger the payment, or select the Housing Rewards option and just earn points and no BIlt cash. Super frustrating the amount of time and mental energy to figure out the best path for each person. Bilt seems to want to promise a lot, but built in a high margin for breakage to limit their costs. Not a great sustainable model it seems and curious to see their retention rates in early 2027.
Anyways, 90% of this is a rant, but 10%, looking for thoughts and advice from people who have a bit more experience navigating the Bilt 2.0 system. Thanks!
Automatic payments are way better anyway, as you can control the amount of your housing payment each month and maximize the points you're getting. I plan to select the housing only option once all of my BC is consumed and then adjust housing to match exactly 4x spend.
