Thanks for posting this. Surprised to see FT'ers mindlessly repeating the misinformation that airlines still have carte blanche to remove you with the help of law enforcement in a situation like this. Post-DAO many cities actually instructed LEOs to not even respond to situations like this and DOT rules means it's the airline, not the passenger, that is going to be facing legal/regulatory consequences.

If that gate agent gets on the intercom and offers a $5,000 travel vouchure AA would have long line of people of happily volunteering to get off that airline.
